Kingston Historical Society

The Kingston Historical Society (KHS) was formed in 1997 as a non-partisan, non-profit organization to preserve, enhance and promote the history of the village of Locktenders House Kingston. The KHS has its headquarters in the Locktender's House on the Delaware and Raritan Canal where it maintains the original circa 1830 home of families who operated the Kingston locks on the canal.

Activities of the KHS include an annual meeting at which we have a speaker, and a Holiday Open House and Tree lighting at the Locktender's House the first Sunday in December. The Society also advocates for the preservation of Kingston's history and historic character.

Canal Society of New Jersey

Mission: To engage the public in the protection of the environment and preservation of the heritage of the D&R Canal.

The Delaware & Raritan Canal and its towpath form a v-shaped linear park that crosses the center of New Jersey, providing recreation, a respite from the tumult of the state's busy centers, a history lesson in the development of New Jersey, and drinking water for the million people who live near this 66-mile greenway in the heart of the nation's most densely populated state.
